So it all began in the Bay of Mussels. Without paying attention to the shells, Bartolomeu Dias landed here on February 3rd 1488. In the 19th century, the port of Mossel Bay had its heyday as a place where Oudtshoorn feather stocks were shipped to Europe. Today, Mossel Bay is not really interesting, the town is a large industrial port with huge beaches and a backdrop of factories and their smoke. During the summer, however, the campsites and hotels attract many family holidaymakers. Whales come in the winter and sharks are present all year round. As in Gansbaai, go cage diving to check it out!
