With its straight road flanked by a few administrative buildings, Bavet is the only Khmer-Vietnamese border post open to foreigners. If your papers are in order, a few stampings will suffice. Then you're in the middle of no-man's-land, just a few meters from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Keep to the right, pass the gatehouse and enter another world. At Moc Bai, the Vietnamese post, there's not a smile to be seen. Allow at least an hour for your luggage to be searched... After this ordeal, have a drink in the refreshment bar before taking a cab.
