It is the second largest city in Manchester, with 7,845 inhabitants. Above Douglas, it is also located on the coast, surrounded by vast agricultural plains on one side and high plateaus on the other. At the northern end of the island is The Ayres Ecological Reserve and its tip, a natural habitat for some 780 species, such as tern and linnet. It covers eight kilometres of dunes and beaches from which dolphins, basking sharks and even, exceptionally, some whales can be seen. For other coastal celebrations, stop at Maughold Cliffs or Dhoon Glen Gorge on the east side. And if you have time, why not drive into the moorland along the A18 where the TT passes. North Barrule is the second highest peak in the territory, much less touristic than Snaefell.... But the ascent is not necessarily very easy. A little further west, the Millennium Way is a long-distance hiking trail that crosses Man from side to side. It offers here some of its most beautiful portions. Forest lovers will also appreciate the presence of several wooded areas, such as the Tholt-y-Will or Ballaugh plantations, painted in a paradisiacal setting.
