The village of Dervaig, pronounced "dervig", dates back to Viking times. In fact, the name Dervaig means "good cove" in Old Norse. The village is accessible from four directions: Calgary, Tobermory, Salen, and Torloisk. All roads are single lane, charming and winding. Straddling land and sea, Dervaig is perhaps the least island-like village on Mull. It is not directly on the coastline and is surrounded by gentle, green hills, close to the wide Loch Frisa. The village of Tobermory and the west coast are not far away and it is a relaxing place from which to explore the north of the island.
