11 km east of Anuradhapura. This small town lies at the foot of the site of the same name, a rocky hill where a sacred city once stood. A must-see if you're visiting Anuradhapura. Small in size, Mihintale has all the shops you need, but little in the way of accommodation. After a complete overhaul of the site's archaeological museum in 2012, the site itself was restored with the help of the army in early 2013. At the time of our visit in 2022, further renovation work was still in progress...
