3 km south of Jaffna. Kayts, to which Mandaitivu is attached to the east, is the central island of the archipelago. It is also called Velanai or Leiden. It is the first island accessible by road from Jaffna, and for those coming from Karaitivu, there is a ferry carrying cars, pedestrians and bicycles on the 500 meters separating the two islands. The most important villages are Kayts, in the extreme northwest, and Velanai, on the main road to the island of Punkuduvitu. Less popular than Casuarina Beach, Chaddy Beach is nevertheless one of the best known beaches in the area. There are a few accommodations nearby
