Located 10 kilometres southwest of Punkuduvitu, it is the only island in the archipelago that retains its Dutch name. Its Tamil name is Neduntheevu or Nedunthivu. It is a featureless island, often battered by winds and covered with semi-arid vegetation. Delft is known for the many wild horses found there, descendants of the mounts left by the Dutch, and for the remains of its old Portuguese fort. Note the almost systematic use of coral as a building material for the fort, of which little remains, as for the many low walls that separate the plots.
