Kairitivu, sometimes referred to as Karainaga, its main town, is an island located 15 km from Jaffna. It can be reached by a road on the water, connected to the coast northwest of Jaffna. On this road, you will have the opportunity to discover the many fishermen present in the low waters and to see in the distance, on the coast you are leaving, the silhouette of the Ponnalai Varadharajaperumal Kovil, a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Thirumal. It is on Karaitivu that you will find Casuarina Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the region, and you can access the islet of Hammenhiel Fort to visit the old Portuguese fort.
