Jaffna is the capital of the Northern Province, 400 kilometres from Colombo. It was once the capital of an important Tamil kingdom, the Kingdom of Jaffna. Its population, estimated at 88,500 people, is made up mostly of Tamils of Hindu faith, as well as a minority of Muslim and Catholic faiths. The city is very green and pleasant, several districts deserve to be discovered. It is of course the case of the city center and its market, the fort, but also of Nallur and the whole area located on both sides of Kandy Road. Casuarina Beach, on the island of Karaitivu, is the most beautiful and the most known beach of the peninsula.
