47 km north of Vavuniya and 33 km south of Kilinochchi. Mankulam has neither accommodation nor real supplies. The place is above all a crossroads between the east and west coasts on the A9. A major reconstruction project was to be launched in 2011 by the Foundation of Goodness (sponsored by cricket star Muthiah Muralidaran) and the government, with the aim of making Mankulam a major regional center. In Sri Lankan popular culture, the city is most famous for its appearance in the 2001 Indian Tamil-language film Kannathil Muthamittal , directed by Mani Ratnam.
