Kaissariani is a suburb of Athens which is fortunate to be located at the foot of the verdant Mount Hymette. While the city itself is of no interest except to those who live there, the Hymittos is the destination of choice for those who enjoy easy mountain walks and mountain biking. Only 20 minutes from Athens, the small cypress lined road that winds its way up to the monastery of Kaisariani and its surroundings is worth a green morning! In a valley lined with pine, plane and cypress trees, this small Byzantine monastery built from the 11th century is worth a visit. Cypresses stand a close guard around the church dedicated to the Presentation of the Virgin. Plan your picnic and water.
