Cuatro Cienegas de Carranza is located 200 km northeast of Torreón, on Route 30. Founded in 1800 on the ruins of the Jesuit mission of the Order of San Pedro, it is a town that offers a surprising mix of Mexican culture and breathtaking scenery. In the town, in addition to the San Jose church (1825) with both Moorish and Gothic details, the neoclassical municipal presidency (1918) will catch the traveler's eye; the Museo Casa Carranza and the Casa de la Cultura are buildings directly related to Venustiano Carranza, the Mexican revolutionary and president who was born here in the 19th century.
