Agua Azul consists of a series of waterfalls whose varied configuration extends for some distance. Along the path leading through the hills to the source of the falls, unavoidable craft vendors occupy the space; they themselves have somewhat distorted the place by concreting over the banks of the main pool, too bad. It is possible to swim almost everywhere, but beware, in some places the currents are strong. The waterfalls of Agua Azul are as famous as they are crowded, but the further up the river you go, the less people there are. After a good hour's walk from the parking lot to the heights, the park guards offer visitors the opportunity to continue discovering the site, for a fee of about 100 pesos to hire the services of a guide. In fact, it is mostly about employing bodyguards: this walk that allows access to the canyon pierced by the river course is quite risky since attacks against tourists have been perpetrated there... During 2017, tour operator vans in Palenque were also targeted by highwaymen. Caution.
