Caves considered among the most beautiful of the planet where you can admire beautiful stalactites and stalagmites.
The caves of Cacahuamilpa are considered among the most beautiful on the planet. You cannot miss to visit them if you go to Taxco. They are more than 2 km deep and you can admire beautiful stalactites and stalagmites several meters high. Inside the caves, the darkness is total on most of the way, reason why an English explorer, who was looking for a lost treasure, lost his life there at the beginning of the XIXth century. For several years, the Mexican government has had lighting installed to enhance the beauty of the limestone formations, but for safety reasons the caves can only be visited on guided tours: guides leave at regular intervals with groups that form on site; the private tour is still more fun. As the caves are huge, the visit is long and takes a little more than 2 hours to cover 4 kilometers round trip: the deeper you go, the more the humid heat becomes suffocating.
Underground rivers: In addition to the visit of these various rooms (which can measure more than 80 meters in height), one can also choose to get a little wet and to go down several tens of meters under ground, by the bed of two underground rivers : only from February to May, when the waters of these rivers fed by the Nevado de Toluca are milder. Be careful, many accidents (sometimes fatal) take place every year during these excursions.
