Zernez, a small village in Graubünden with a population of 1,500, lies at an altitude of 1,474 metres above sea level at the northern gateway to the Swiss National Park, the country's largest nature reserve (172 km2). The village is an ideal stopping point as it houses the National Park House, where you can obtain information about the region. Take the opportunity to see the permanent exhibition and also the reproduction of a marmot's burrow which you can enter and the vivarium which contains adder. There are several shops and petrol stations in the village, as well as some pleasant terraces on either side of the central square.
