Cumberland Island is the largest island in the Golden Isles. A national park since 1971, it was the property of the Carnegie River from the 1880 s. The wealthy family built three houses there: the magnificent Dungeness remains in ruins, Plum Orchard Plantation, now owned by the National park, and Greyfield house, today the island's only hotel option. A stay on Cumberland Island is worth its impressive landscapes: winds beaten by the winds and populated by the region's last wild horses, salt salt, deserted beaches and white sand with lost sight, fingers oak forests and several hundred years old, flooded with Spanish moss.In a day, you can enjoy the beaches and forest trails. But if you want to discover the north of the island or simply spend time, a few days will be required.
