Brunswick, whose port is an essential part of its economy, is the second largest urban area on the coast of Georgia, after Savannah. It is located in Old Town Brunswick's historic district, added to the National Register of Historic Sites in 1979. It is bounded by 1 st Street, Bay Street, New Bay Street, H Street and Cochran Street. The main buildings to be seen include the Ritz Theatre (1899) and the Old City Hall (1888), both on the main street, Newcastle Street, in numbers 1530 and 1229. To the south of the city, on Highway 17, the Sidney Lanier Bridge is found: a superb cable-stayed bridge 2 371 metres long in 2003.
