A curious mixture of African, Arab and above all European influences, Asmara is very different from other African capitals, which are not generally acclamation for their beauty or cleanliness, nor for the calm that reigns there. Asmara is the exception that confirms the rule! The traveller arriving at the airport in Asmara in the middle of the night is still greeted by a fresh temperature which reminds him immediately of the altitude to which he has just landed: In fact, the Eritrean capital is located in the highlands region, which sometimes gives it the name "city above the clouds" and allows it to enjoy almost all the year of an ideal climate and a clear sky. The day is not yet lifted and the streets are silent when one hears resonate "Allah Akbar", from the different mosques of the capital, shortly before the bells of the churches mettent. Here is the first example of cultural and religious diversity in the capital. Once the sun is lifted, it is immediately struck by the Italian atmosphere that reigns in the city. Harnet Avenue, the main street, is lined with palm trees, with coffee and coffee making facilities. The adjacent small streets are lined with bougainvillea of various colours and contain jewels of art deco architecture: sumptuous villas with pastel tones, as well as a few cinemas where it is always possible to make a canvas. We would almost forget that we are in Africa, but young Eritrean youth, dressed in the last Western fashion, alongside women curled up in their Netsela and men sometimes of the white turbans, remind the visitor that it is indeed on another continent.
