The village of Furore is located halfway between Amalfi and Positano. Nestled in a rocky cleft, it overlooks the sea, which is rough in places (hence the name of the town, which means "fury"). It has been made famous for its fjord, the postcard you see everywhere from Sorrento to Salerno, but also the place you never find. Between the territories of Conca dei Marini, Agerola and Furore, the fjord is located at the mouth of the Schiato torrent that runs down the steep slopes from Agerola. Just after Praiano, the state road that crosses the Amalfi coast has killed this village, but its fjord still attracts tourists. You can't see it directly, because the bridge over it quickly swallows up the tunnel in front of it. That's why it's often only its picture that we have in mind. The passage on this bridge lasts a handful of seconds and when you see the fjord, you think you are dreaming. Then, the pleasant ribbon of asphalt of the coast resumes its course. The 3,000 steps down to the fjord are steeped in history: this is the path that fishermen used to take to bring in the fish. In the days of the Republic of Amalfi, this small port, always sheltered from the wind, was very popular. The remains of this bygone era are scattered around the village of Furore, including old paper mills. Below, a sandy beach ends the fjord where the torrent flows.
