Mont-Ormel, a small village of around fifty inhabitants in the Orne part of the Pays d'Auge, is particularly well known for its tragic past. As recounted at the Coudehard-Montormel Memorial, located on the village's 262-metre-high slopes, particularly bloody battles between the Allies and the Germans took place here in 1944. These final battles of the Battle of Normandy left an indelible mark on the history of the region and its inhabitants. More than just a historical site, this hilly locality is well worth a visit, especially for hiking enthusiasts, of whom there are many in the region.
