We all pass by Plaine Corail when we come to Rodrigues since the site hosts the airport which bears the same name. Reminiscent of a distant volcanic past, this peninsula located in the south-west is in fact a piece of lagoon that emerged from the water under the pressure of tectonic tremors. In this whole area, the soil is therefore coral - hence the name of Coral Plain. For a long time, the Rodriguans have exploited this natural resource by sawing cubic pieces from the rock concretions to make bricks for the construction of houses and decorative objects for tourists
