In the early 17th century, Hossegor had a freshwater lake at its heart, occupying the former bed of the Adour river. The town grew up around this lake, which was connected to the ocean in 1880. At the beginning of the 20th century, neo-Basque-style buildings flourished on its shores. The town has welcomed prestigious guests, including writers, poets and musicians such as Paul Marguerite, Paul Valéry, J.-H. Rosny, André Gide, Paul Claudel and Maurice Ravel. Even today, celebrities, artists and couturiers cross paths. Alongside the ocean, a kilometer-long footbridge invites you to take a stroll and enjoy the "Elégance Océane".
