Vismarkt, an old fish market, is one of the most picturesque squares in Middelburg
Vismarkt is an old fish market. It is one of the most picturesque squares in Middelburg, but there are several. This square is made of cobblestones and includes lime and chestnut trees. Markets are still regularly held here. On Thursdays there is an antique market and on Saturdays it is the turn of the flea market. A nice fountain is present as well as a statue of Sofie, a girl who bends over as if to give a kiss. This statue dates from 2001 and is the work of the artist Sjer Jacobs.
