This city hall located on the market place, is one of the most beautiful secular buildings of the country
On the market square, stands one of the most beautiful secular buildings in the country. Built between 1452 and 1458, it was almost completely destroyed by the bombings of 1940 but rebuilt to the original. The façade, dated 1513, is decorated with statues of the 25 counts and countesses of Zeeland and Holland. As in the Middle Ages, wooden shutters, white and red, close over the windows and doors, because in those days glass was rare. The University College Roosevelt is partly housed here. Exhibitions are regularly held here on the Vleeshal side.
