In the winter of 1969-1970, a thunderstorm devastated the banks of Ozette, revealing hundreds of perfectly preserved wooden objects. A hiker contacted the Makah tribe, which was protected from Washington State University, and in April 1970, the research of the Ozette site began. The history of the Makah tells us that a great landslide had engulfed the village of Ozette long ago, archaeologists prouvèrent that history was true. Six houses and their contents were found in the middle of the mud. Objects are now displayed at the Makah Museum in Neah Bay.
