Museum showing the stages in bell-making, from two weeks to three months' work.

In the Grassmayr family, bell casting is a tradition handed down from father to son. The museum shows the various stages in the bell-making process, which takes from two weeks to three months. The heaviest bells weigh up to 10 tonnes. While tone control is carried out by computer, casting techniques in clay molds are the same as in the Middle Ages. Bronze gives the best resonance and the longest sound. The oldest bell on display dates back to 1490. New website.
