Located 95 km from Diyarbakır, Mardin embodies the tolerant and religiously diverse Turkey. It has hosted several civilizations (Christian, Syriac, Arab, Armenian, Kurdish, Turkmen...) without interruption and this can be felt since Kurds, Arabs and Syriac Christians still live side by side there today. Now a candidate for inclusion in the Unesco World Heritage List, the city is a key stage of a journey in eastern Anatolia. The old town, which stretches along the hillside up to 1,300 meters above sea level, can be easily explored on foot by taking the endless stairs that offer superb panoramic views of the surrounding plains. Thanks to its well-preserved traditional architecture, you will have the opportunity to discover a succession of old houses in carved stone as well as several historical monuments, churches and mosques in particular. In contrast to the concrete seaside resorts of the south of the country, you will fall under the charm of this wonderful small Mesopotamian city.
