Sheltered from the wind in a natural cove, Maiori offers the largest beach on the Amalfi coast to those who like to relax, with a beautiful seafront promenade dotted with cafés and lounge bars. Formerly called Rheginna Maior to distinguish it from Rheginna Minor (now Minori), the town is less well known but just as pleasant. It is home to several churches, including Santa Maria A Mare, with its large dome decorated with majolica. After a terrible flood in 1954, the reconstruction gave the town a more modern look compared to other places in the area, without stifling the typical Mediterranean charm of the place.
