The Los Tres Gigantes biological station is located 40 km north of Bahía Negra, in a 15,000-hectare nature reserve administered by the NGO Guyra Paraguay. Its name comes from the fact that it is the only place in the world where you can observe the "Three Giants": the giant armadillo (Priodontes maximus), the giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis) and the giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactila). It concentrates an enormous biodiversity of birds, mammals and reptiles. This scientific research centre welcomes a limited number of tourists. It is possible to explore by lancha the black waters of the river and to go for a canoe trip, on foot or on horseback. You can also fish for piranha! Part of the reserve was affected by the severe fires of August 2019, but the biological station was spared.
