This national park protects 2,000 hectares of exuberant vegetation and numerous springs, rivers and waterfalls. The name Ñacunday comes from the name of a nocturnal bird of the region, the ñacundá (Chordeiles nacunda), "big mouth" in Guarani. This park hides a wonder of nature: the Salto Ñacunday. Much less known and easily accessible than Saltos Monday, this waterfall is just as spectacular and much wilder. With its 40 meters high and 70 meters wide, it offers a majestic spectacle, in front of which one can stay for hours. At the time of our investigation, there were no tourist facilities on site. Given the potential of the site, the municipality of Ñacunday was in discussion with Itaipú Binacional and Senatur to improve access and possibly build an observation bridge. But projects often drag on in Paraguay, or fall completely into the water, which is not lacking around here...
