It's a small commune - 5 km from Stresa - that's well worth a stop to stroll through its oldest quarters. You can also take your time to admire some of the evidence of its medieval past, such as the Romanesque church of Santa Maria del Suffragio, as well as ancient buildings with porticoes and loggias, typical of local popular architecture. At the beginning of the 20th century, the town became a magnet for celebrities, with many beautiful residences and gardens. The more imposing lakeside Villa Carlotta was once home to such illustrious figures as the writer Alessandro Manzoni and the poet Guido Gozzano.
