About 80 km from Naryn, at a fork in the road, a small dirt road leaves the main road, crosses a small river and enters a red rock gorge. This road, which leads to the caravanserai of Tash Rabat, at an altitude of 3,102 m, was the route originally followed by the caravanserais on their way to Kashgar. The caravanserai sits at the top of a small hill, framed on all sides by higher mountains, and below which flows a small river that can be followed to reach the lake of Chatir Kul (still an 8-hour walk).
