Bokonbaevo is just a village: a few houses around the bazaar and the bus station, with less than 15,000 inhabitants. One goes there to make a stop before a hike in the surrounding mountains where CBT, which has opened an agency in the city centre, organises treks on foot and on horseback. It is also from here that you can easily organise a day out to discover the farms where eagle hunting is practised. Recently, a festival of birds of prey has been organised every year at the beginning of August (dates vary, contact the local CBT office). Falcon trainers and hunters perform on a large esplanade by the lake.
