30 km east of Bishkek. Near the dungan village of Krasnaya Rechka are the ruins of the ancient city of Navekat, "the new city" in Sogdian. Some consider that these ruins almost buried underground are more evocative than those of Balasagoun in Burana. This Sogdian city was a powerful city located on the silk road crossing the valley of Tchouï. It was destroyed by the Mongols at the end of the 12th century. Archaeologists have discovered on this site a Buddhist temple, a fortress and a palace dating from the Karakhanid period. The site is unguarded, but can be reached by taxi.
