Fishing village with many historic buildings and beautiful beaches. At dusk, you can watch pygmy penguins returning to land after a day's fishing at sea (December to March). Ornithorbills can be seen along rivers and lakes. The Nut, 152 m high, is an impressive volcanic rock formed some 12.5 million years ago. A steep path climbs to the summit (20 min walk), but for the less adventurous, a cable car provides easy access (AU$ 12 one way). At the top, 4 magnificent viewpoints are scattered over a short 40-minute hike.
