A must-visit address that has just celebrated its 30th anniversary. The main avenue in the town center opens onto a large, welcoming room and an inner courtyard under chestnut trees. Here's a pleasant, lively place to stop for a coffee, share a moment with family or friends, and enjoy fresh, generous cuisine. Here, locals and tourists mingle cordially. Pretty salads in wooden bowls, delicious vegi-wok, grilled meats... Very friendly service.

For a change from Austrian cuisine, here's a superb African restaurant popular with students, facing the central square on the other side of the bridge, at the foot of the Ars Electronica Center. A gustatory voyage that invites sweet potatoes, manioc, plantains and legumes alongside organic and local vegetables to concoct a healthy cuisine to share. Excellent vegetarian curry with lentils, vegetables, coconut milk, rice and couscous. For dessert, the date mousse with fresh fruit is a delight. The menu is available in English on the website.

A gastronomic and highly epicurean address. Rosso offers creative cuisine based on fresh fish and seafood. Start with grilled octopus on a celery purée, or young asparagus with scallops, then wild turbot in salt dough, to share, with caper flower sauce, cherry tomatoes, Taggiasca olives and potato rings, and finish with a lemon sorbet with prosecco and vodka.

This Austrian-style fast-food restaurant is conveniently located near Hauptplatz. As the sign says, the specialty here is Leberkäse, a mixture of pork liver (the original is made from horsemeat, so ask first) and other ingredients (including cheese, which makes Käseleberkäse), presented between two slices of bread. This is the Austrian Big Mac! Quite hearty, it also has the advantage of being inexpensive. There are also several addresses in Wien and one in Flagenfurt.

At the entrance to the botanical gardens, this café-restaurant offers excellent coffee, pastries and friendly dishes. Cold cucumber soup with sprouted seeds and fresh ginger, grilled cheese toast, radishes, carrots, arugula and very good artisanal ice creams. Add fresh fruit juices. All of this is done to the highest standards, with a selection of impeccable products, most of them organic. Excellent value for money. Pleasant terrace and friendly service.
