Tutzing, a small town on the western shore of the lake, is famous for its honorary citizen: Johannes Brahms. He lived in Tutzing, and it was undoubtedly the surrounding countryside that inspired his quartets and the famous Brahms variations. Until the 19th century, Tutzing was a fishing village, but the arrival of the railways in 1865 transformed it into a holiday resort. The beauty of the area attracted people who came here to recharge their batteries, won over by the scenery and its ideal location halfway between the big city of Munich and the Alps. Lovers of Nordic walking will be delighted, and walkers can count on 17 hectares of paths and trails along the lake.
