This beautiful national park of 11,200 ha was created in 1945 to protect the ecosystem of the laguna blanca, estimated as the largest freshwater reserve in northern Patagonia. Located at an altitude of 1,270 m, it is home to a remarkable birdlife: peregrine falcon, golden eagle, pink flamingos... and vulnerable species such as the grey fox and the colocolo, also known as the pampas cat. But the park is especially renowned for its superb black-necked swans, and is one of the most important nesting sites in the world. Entrance to the park is free and it is possible to camp on site or sleep in the village of Zapala (30 km).
