The biggest popular festival in Porto, in homage to Saint John. Hit the head with a hammer, dances, grilled sardines....
It is the biggest popular festival in Porto, in honour of Saint John, which takes place at the time of the summer solstice. For the occasion, thousands of people are in the streets to hit each other on the head with hammers (fake of course), to meet, to have fun, to see the fireworks, to eat special dishes and mainly grilled sardines. All this while actively participating in the popular games. The party is great and does not end until the sun rises. Fortunately, the 24th of June is a public holiday!
