Burnhaupt-le-Haut was part of the seigneury of Showered. Its history remains linked to that of Burnhaupt-le-Bas, it seems, moreover, that there is only one parish church for the two communes, until the th century. Its annex, the Aspach Bridge, played an important role as it allowed the Doller to be crossed. It was a former toll, presumably created by the counts of Eguisheim, hence the appearance of the name of Exenbruck in 1945. During the First World War, village and annex will be completely destroyed. Later, industrial activities will focus on the Aspach Bridge. Until the th century, Burnhaupt-le-Haut will have more inhabitants than Burnhaupt-le-Bas. The situation will then be reversed.
