Newberry Springs owes its name to the springs that feed it from the water table. In this oasis in the middle of the desert, there are many crops (pistachios, apricots, alfalfa, etc.). In addition to these important agricultural areas and numerous water bodies, formations of volcanic origin are also visible around the city. In 1985, Percy Adlon directed the film Bagdad Café here, in the Sidewinder Café (renamed for the occasion). The real Baghdad Café, located in the ghost town of Baghdad, 52 miles to the east, had not existed since 1968. The same is true today for the city of Baghdad, definitively gone since 2001
