Cuervo, whose name means "raven" in Spanish, came into being like most of the other towns through here: in the early 20th century, during the construction of the Rock Island & Pacific Railroad. The town began to grow when the surrounding land was opened to cattle ranching in 1910. However, there were only 300 residents when Route 66 cut its way through the small town. Their number is much smaller today and most of the buildings have long since fallen into disrepair...The curiosity that was its post office installed in a mobile home disappeared in 2011, victim of a fire.
