Stroud began in 1892, when James W. Stroud built a store and post office on his property one mile west of the present town site. A community developed there but soon moved to be on the route of the Arkansas and Oklahoma Railroad In Stroud, you can stop at the Rock Café (Route 66 - 114 West Main Street), a great place for breakfast or lunch. You can also see the Skyliner Motel (Route 66 - 717 West Main Street), with its beautiful vintage neon, as well as several historic buildings.
