Founded in 1871, Vinita is one of the oldest cities in Oklahoma (a state created only in 1907, on the lands of the Indian Territory). There are many antique stores, old gas stations and Clanton's Cafe, which has been in operation since 1927. In late August, the annual Will Rogers Rodeo is held at the Will Rogers Arena. The hotels are often sold out at this time. A mile toward the airport, straddling I-44 (Will Rogers Turnpike), is one of the largest McDonald's in the world, completely renovated and destined to be a huge Interstate rest stop. It has been called the Will Rogers Archway since 2014.
