A small independent port area, San Pedro was populated by numerous migrants from Portugal, Greece, Mexico and Yugoslavia. It was finally annexed to Los Angeles in 1909, its port officially becoming that of the city. However, San Pedro has not been devoured by the huge City of Angels and has managed to keep its identity which differentiates it from all the other districts of the coast. There is a special atmosphere here, almost like a small village where everyone knows each other.
