The port of Polače is one of the oldest settlements on the island. This is where most of the visitors arrive, who make their way to the tourist office (near the boat arrivals) as if from one mass. It's a quiet, attractive little village facing the sea, just a stone's throw from the pay point of the national park. It's a great base from which to explore the surrounding area, and it's here that a number of ferries dock in season. From Polače, it's easy to get to the National Park's salt lakes (on foot, by shuttle bus or by bike).
