Habitat for birds, insects, fish, and the development of baby turtles
The area around Île d'Ambre is lined with mangroves, an ecosystem made up mainly of mangrove trees, whose roots emerge from the water to form miniature aquatic mazes. This habitat is home to birds, insects, fish and baby turtles. Two species breed here and are protected: the green turtle and the hawksbill turtle. Three other species pass close to the coast and can be seen more rarely: the leatherback turtle, the olive ridley turtle and the square tortoise.
