Welcome to Mykonos! By the end of the 1950s, this picture-postcard island had become the symbol of a newly-acquired freedom of living that continues to this day. And over the past twenty years, the gay community has taken up residence on the island, breathing new life into eccentric parties, wild happenings and alternative bars. In high season, you've got to love the crowds and, above all, you've got to love a party! Around the main streets of Matogianni and Zouganeli Florou, there's something for every budget, from luxury brands to low-priced sandal makers. In the evening, the many bars and cafés change the scene, but the atmosphere remains quieter and more pleasant than on the seafront or in the big party spots. But nature also knows how to reclaim its rights. Here, the grand master is also the dreaded meltemi, a capricious wind that quickly forces you to take shelter in the maze of small, protected alleyways. The Chora of Mykonos reveals itself to those who take the time to wander around and let themselves be guided by chance. You'll come across alleys where laundry dries at siesta time, as if in suspended time, and where older people chat in front of small stores..
