Meidoun is located 70 km south of Cairo, near the Fayoum oasis. It is an archaeological site in Lower Egypt. It contains a large pyramid, one of the least known in Egypt, as well as several tombs and mud-brick mastabas dating from the Old Kingdom. These mastabas belonged to dignitaries close to Snefru (Fourth Dynasty). Mastaba M15 belonged to Prince Rahotep and his wife Nefret. Mastaba M16, discovered by Mariette in 1871, belonged to Prince Nefermaat and contains the painting of the Meidoun Geese (on display at the Cairo Museum). This painted plaster is exceptionally colorful.
