ESCH-SUR-SÛRE CASTLE

If only a few ruins remain of the 10th century fortified castle, its monumental keep and its small Romanesque chapel, clinging to the rocks, are nevertheless worth the detour! Both give right on the Sûre river. It is therefore a pleasant picturesque walk through romantic ruins and history on the heights of Esch-sur-Sûre... This walk is always very much appreciated by families: children are the first to love climbing the steps leading them to the keep. From up there, the panorama is superb: photography enthusiasts will be served.

LAC DE LA HAUTE-SÛRE NATIONAL CIRCUIT

This 37.6 km walking loop around the Haute-Sûre lake allows you to cross several picturesque villages that border the immense body of water, with a magnificent view of the dam from the cornice road. In addition to enjoying the calm of the lake, you will be able to admire the lush flora and fauna of the area. It is possible to eat and sleep in Esch-sur-Sûre, Kaundorf, Bavaria, Liefrange, Bavaria, Boulaide, Arsdorf, Insenborn and Lultzhausen.

DRAPERY MUSEUM

Museums

Installed in the Maison du parc, on the very site of the old drapery closed in 1975, this museum allows the visitor to discover the artisanal manufacture of sheets from sheep's wool. During guided tours (only on request), the carefully restored machines come into action and revive this once flourishing industry. The drapery regularly hosts textile art exhibitions, where traditional crafts are combined with contemporary creation, and organises textile workshops for children and adults.

MAISON DU PARC NATUREL DE LA HAUTE-SÛRE

The Maison du Parc naturel de la Haute-Sûre has been housed since 1992 in an old restored drapery. It houses the Nature Park Visitor Centre as well as a tourist information centre, a shop with regional products (honeys, jams, etc.), the Drapery Museum and an interactive exhibition on the Nature Park. It also regularly hosts temporary exhibitions. Guided tours can be organised on request.

HEIDERSCHEIDERGRUND CHAPEL

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

Nicknamed "the inkwell" because of its original octagonal shape, this tiny neo-Gothic chapel with its white walls is a true rarity. Built between 1849 and 1852, it is dedicated to Saint Cunégonde. The patron saint is represented in several forms: there is a statue above the portal and on the altar as well as a painting in the stained glass window. Since 1991, the building has been on the national inventory of listed monuments.

CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY OF THE VIRGIN MARY

Religious buildings

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1757 on older foundations. The tower dates back to 1806. In the apse there is a Gothic Eucharistic cupboard. The altarpiece with a central niche in perspective dates back to the second half of the 18th century. Its polychromy was made in 1858 by Peter Dausch and Nicholas Stegreiff of Trier. The Müller organ dates from 1901 and the altar is a listed monument.

THE MYSTERIES OF ESCH-SUR-SÛRE

Themed tours and activities

The Mysteries of Esch-sur-Sûre invite you to a walk of about two hours through the historic town, its castle and the ruins overlooking it. The route connects 21 theme stations from the Nature Park House to the tunnel leading out of the village, past the cemetery chapel, the log tower, the keep and many other stages steeped in history and mystery. The circuit is correctly marked out and each point of interest is commented on.
